The Economics behind racist rap music lyrics – Dr Boyce Watkins

Hip Hop labels never believed black lives matter – Dr Boyce Watkins. Today I want to ask a basic question about the hip-hop music industry: Why is it that it’s OK to market violence against black people, but not about any other race?

Also, why do #hiphop labels such as Universal and Epic records find it ok to say things about black people that they would never say about any other group?

Lastly, let’s talk about the economics of the #rapmusic industry and why there are financial incentives for rappers to behave in ridiculous ways to appease a mostly white audience.

#Rappers aren’t the only ones to blame for this racist fiasco, #racism is.

If #BlackLivesMatter, then perhaps we should act like they do instead of just pretending.
