Ridiculous! MO Legislative Cmte Race/Racism Curriculum Hearing Lacks Testimony From A Black Person

A Missouri legislative committee had the audacity to hold a hearing on race and racism curriculum…without a single testimony from a Black person!

Many white parents, teachers, and scholars testified at the invite-only Joint Committee on Education hearing– most of them criticizing critical race theory.

The committee leader, GOP Senator Cindy O’Laughlin, says the purpose of the hearing was to "highlight voices of parents against critical race theory that claims school officials have ignored their complaints."

Rep. O’Laughlin also says she invited an associate professor of teaching specializing in Black history, but he declined to testify.

It is not clear if that professor was Black.

The Missouri NAACP President Rod Chapel says it was "ridiculous" to have a conversation about inequity while "excluding the very people who are saying we’ve been treated inequitably."

Chapel spoke with Roland Martin about the insane attempt by a Missouri legislative committee to silence voices in the community and attack critical race theory despite it not being taught in the state’s schools.
