Today, we review the movie King Richard starring Will Smith.

King Richard is a 2021 American biographical drama film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin, and follows the life of Richard Williams, the father and coach of famed tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, who serve as executive producers of the film. It stars Will Smith in the title role, Aunjanue Ellis, Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Tony Goldwyn, and Jon Bernthal.

It had its world premiere at the 48th Telluride Film Festival on September 2, 2021, and was theatrically released on November 19, 2021, by Warner Bros. Pictures and on the HBO Max streaming service on the same day. The film received positive reviews, with Smith’s performance garnering universal acclaim.

Premise
Richard Williams is raising his two daughters, Venus and Serena, plus his three step-daughters in Compton, California. Venus competes in ITF Junior Circuit before going pro in 1994 at the age of 14. Richard expresses hesitation about her going pro, to the chagrin of her mother. Richard soon changes his mind and signs up both his daughters with coach Rick Macci. The family move to Florida once the two daughters become professional players. Venus competes against Arantxa Sánchez Vicario from Spain in 1994. Nine months later, she signs a contract with Reebok.
